Greetings from CDOG              June 13, 2010

Gas drilling stories in the news:

"Marcellus Shale Gas Well Rupture Controlled After 16 Hours: "...EOG Resources said the rupture happened because of unexpectedly high gas pressure after they fractured the shale about a mile below ground..." " (The Pittsburgh Channel PA)- http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/23793198/detail.html

"Consequences by the gallon: "...A gas well in Penfield, Pa., quite likely will join the drilling industry's list of wells that never polluted anyone's drinking water. But the well and what happened there last week could just as easily go on the list that we hope regulators are keeping -- of reasons not to rush into a huge expansion of natural gas drilling in New York..." " (Times Union Albany NY)- http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=938796&category=OPINION

"Life in not-so-sleepy Burlington sure has changed: "...In this small town that straddles U.S. Route 6 in the center of Bradford County, the evidence of drilling is all around: convoys of large trucks carry pipes, compressors or water filters; tankers filled with fresh or waste water; hilltop gas rigs visible for miles..."The water quality has deteriorated. The traffic has increased — not only the cars or tractor-trailers, but now the dump trucks and water trucks due to the gas well explosion in this area."...While most residents know their community may never be the same, Wolfe said, "We have no one to blame but ourselves. We asked for it, now we have to deal with it. I just want my small town back."..." " (PA)- http://www.pressconnects.com/article/20100605/NEWS01/6050370/1112/Life-in-not-so-sleepy-Burlington-sure-has-changed

"Texas, Missouri, Colorado ... suddenly, Towanda has a problem: "... Mud-splattered heavy-duty white pickups can be seen at every turn. Their tags read like an atlas: Texas, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Arkansas. No matter how you slice it, this Bradford County borough of 2,826 is in the heart of the Marcellus Shale gas play and that means congestion..." CDOG in the news:

"Chilling Images of Drilling’s Perils, Met by Numbed Eyes: "...The occasion was the screening of "Gasland," a polemical and quite frightening documentary on the impact of the new generation of gas drilling coming to upstate New York. But, given the news, there was also plenty of talk about that huge well explosion everyone had heard about..." " (The New York Times) (Walton NY)- http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/10/nyregion/10towns.html
